Metamorphosis
"Metamorphosis" by Dagmar Schürrer for entomologist and naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian
Maria Sibylla Merian (1895 - 1982) was a German entomologist, naturalist and scientific illustrator. Her pioneering research in illustrating and describing the various stages of development, from egg to larva to pupa and finally to adult, dispelled the notion of spontaneous generation and established the idea that insects undergo distinct and predictable life cycles. Her book Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium has been credited with influencing a range of naturalist illustrators. Her digital monument is paired with the Goethe Monument in Frankfurt – Goethe was also a naturalist. He was impressed by her paintings and sketches, calling them both scientific and artistic.

”Particalize” by Mohsen Hazrati for physicist Lise Meitner
Lise Meitner (1878 - 1968) was an Austrian-born physicist responsible for the discovery of nuclear fission and the element protactinium. Even before her theoretical interpretation of nuclear fission in 1939, she received the first of four nominations for the Nobel Prize in 1919 - but she did not receive the Nobel Prize itself. The Nobel Prize was awarded exclusively to her long-time collaborator Otto Hahn in 1945. Her digital monument is paired with the Gutenberg Denkmal monument in Frankfurt.
Artist Profile
#Make Us Visible 2.0 focuses on telling the stories of female protagonists who had a significant impact on society. The Make Us Visible, Frankfurt edition evolves around two locations – specifically, the Goethe and Gutenberg monument in the city center. The first chapter, which is located in Frankfurt, is created in tandem with ARora, the medienkunst e.V., Scavengar and is being supported by the Aventis Foundation. Together with the curators Anne Wichmann, Peggy Schoenegge and the magnificent artists Dagmar Schürer and Mohsen Hazrati, we chose to tell the stories of Lise Meitner and Maria Sibylla Merian at the Goethe and Gutenberg monuments in the city center.
The #MakeUsVisible 2.0 campaign boasts multi-sensory storytelling, incorporating visually stunning digital art, spatial audio soundscapes, and haptic feedback for a truly immersive experience. Users can enjoy captivating content without the need to download an app, leveraging native app frameworks. This results in an unprecedented quality of mobile and app-less AR experiences, which has clear advantages over WebAR.
